Day of the African Child (16 June)

The 2016 Day of the African Child was commemorated in June 16, with activities taking place throughout the month of June. Given the prevailing drought crisis which has gripped Southern Africa throughout 2015 and 2016, the theme for 2016 was “Protecting Children in Emergencies.”

Through a series of events in June, the aim was to increase awareness of child protection, health and hygiene issues affecting children in Swaziland during this crisis, and to mobilise communities to play an active role in promoting and protecting the rights of children. The commemoration of the Day of the African Child was held on 16th June in Lubulini, one of the communities hardest hit by the drought.
