The Swazi Observer was established in Swaziland as part of King Sobhuza’s Diamond Jubilee projects in 19981. The project was actively promoted by statesman, Sishayi Nxumalo, a former minister of commerce who enlisted the support of the Lonrho Group which seconded the initial management and technical support.
The newspaper is owned by the Royal Trust, Tibiyo Taka Ngwane. Its publishing offices are in Mbabane while its printing works are in Matsapha.
The Swazi Observer publishes six days a week between Monday and Saturday. Newspaper circulation figures are not audited in Swaziland. However it is estimated that it currently enjoys an average circulation of 8000 per day. The Observer is available daily on the internet.
